Book Review: "Dead in the Series"
Summary: 2 Stars
Well, this pains me to write, being such a die-hard Sookie Stackhouse Fan, but it has to be done. This book was here, there, everywhere BUT great. First off, Charlaine spends at least a paragraph describing each character as they are introduced. While this was great during the first few books in the series- refreshing our memory and catching up those who are new, but by book 10- we know who everyone is- and for those of you who are reading your first Sookie book at book 10- where have you been?
Next, this entire book was introducing various members of people's families/past. While it is nice to get some more background into their lives and families, there were WAY too many characters and storylines in this one book. Also- for about the first 70 or so pages I felt like it was all talk and NO action. This book was too heavy on the strategery of the vampire areas, talk amongst the characters, and fragmented story lines. Charlaine could have picked two of the story lines- ex. Eric's Maker and the Were/two natured issues could have been further developed and taken up this entire book, and all the other stories could have been elaborated in another book.
Also- by this point I find myself getting confused over the various storylines. We are getting several new story lines and characters in each book and by this point the readers are bogged down with too many things going on at once.
SPOILERS-------
The things I liked- Well, the Sookie and Eric romance is a plus, however, it could have been further developed and taken further as opposed to the continuation of their sexual prowess and Sookie's indecision over her true fellings. Also, I liked the addition of the Bellefluer-Compton story line, although it lasted a total of 5 pages. I LOVED the concept of Bill meeting his vampire "mate" and their blossoming realtionship, but again, that encompassed 5 pages and we learned about it through a letter to Sookie.
All in all- it was a quick enjoyable read, and there was a lot of potential for a great read- especially with the great story lines introduced, but Charlaine left a lot to be desired! Please step it up for book 11!
