Book Review: Howard Does It Again

Every time I've read a Linda Howard book in the last few years, I tell myself its not going to be as good as the last. Every time I've been wrong. If anything "Death Angel" surpasses "Up Close and Dangerous" by miles with both complicated characters and interesting plot.
Howard manages to take two characters who are not normally the kind you cheer for and make you care about them. Drea/Andie is a con woman who steals, albeit from a druglord, and tries to run off with the money. The assasin character is a killer who has one sexual encounter with Drea and leaves her, then is tapped to take her out by the druglord.
Both of these characters sound irredeemable, and yet I found myself wanting them to make it out okay and live happily ever after. Howard makes you care when other authors can't seem to get there. I read this book in an afternoon, and didn't even notice I'd been reading for 3 hours without looking up once. That's how engrossing it is.
