Summary: 5 Stars
It is apparent that I gift 5 stars often. It is less a function of perfect writing style or a certain manner of excitement for me than of deep consciousness within the writer that I perceive. Laurence Gonzales has gifted me with an important book, one that I will refer to often. In chasing his father's courage, as he writes, he has added to our awareness of what it is to be a survivor. It is a translatable book. It is not about hiking in the Canyon Lands although it is that as well. It is about the inner workings of the human mind and the recipe for hanging on in utter chaos. It is about chosing to survive even in the face of death.
