Book Reviews of Demon (Gaea)Book Review: Varley brings his best and worst back to Gaia Summary: 4 Stars
Varley's imagination is the best thing he's got going for him, and he puts it to full use in this last installment of the Titan series. That said, I am disappointed in two things; first, he has an axe to grind when it comes to religion in general, and his anti-religious fervor really gets in the way of the plot (although even I found myself laughing at some of his characterizations of Christian sects), and second, the ending has an unsatifying, "deus-ex-machina" flavor to it. But for anyone who read and liked the other two books, this one will not disappoint.
Book Review: Varley is Great! Summary: 5 Stars
This book, being the third in John Varley's 'Gaia' Series, is typical Varley in the twists, the turns, the way the story goes along where you do not want to put the book down, and og course, the surprising ending as is typical of Varley.
John Varley is a great author!
Book Review: Well worth the long wait! Summary: 4 Stars
Demon completes a fabulous trilogy, from a great writer who should write more. Demon will impress itself on you, you will not regret reading it. If you have read Titan and Wizard you will buy it anyway, if not buy all three now!
Book Review: Who is John Varley? Summary: 5 Stars
First, the commentarys must bet completed with the one I made to Titan. When I start to read this book (I read it by mistake before Titan and Wizard) I start to read the last page so that during the book I tried to make a connection between the point where I was and the end... I read the last page, I read the two last pages and I read the three last pages, I start to read from the beginning and I still was amazed with the end. I confess that if I started to read the trilogy from Titan In the end shoure I had assassin feelings to Varley because ... the end It's so open...! every time that I read the trilogy I end it with more questions than anwsers, I felt a very strong need for a fourth episode. I even thought to try to talk with Varley to request him an explanation for the end, what he was thinking behind the words writen:"She opened her wings and flew away", was just a methaphor, because she was free of the responsability of the life of a specie, or like she thought "strangest things had happened" and really flew away? .
Book Review: excellent ! Summary: 5 Stars
this is without doubt one of the most brilliant ideas in SF ever and furthermore, it is excellently written. the world inside the wheel comes completely alive, the characters are brilliantly created and the titanides are the most fascinating and beutifully conceived alien race i have ever encountered. both TITAN and WIZARD are great and should of course be read to get the whole story, but the climax in DEMON is by far John Varleys best writing ever.
