Book Review: Elegant, impressive and scary dinosaurs that work for kids

I just love this book. It's a classic case of the kind of book a parent buys, supposedly for his child, but actually for himself - the pictures of dinosaurs throughout it are gorgeously impressive - yet my eighteen-month-old son also loves it (which I suppose is just as well.)I can't abide dinosaur books for kids that make the animals "cute" (you know, that whole Barney The Purple Dinosaur syndrome). Dinosaur Roar somehow avoids the pitfalls. Yes, the animals are drawn in a cartoonish style, and yes, they are brightly coloured; and yet they somehow have some real dignity, presence and power to them. They look enough like the real thing that my son instantly recocnised the dinosaurs on Jurassic Park when I showed him a bit of the video! (Yes, I know that the JP dinosaurs aren't "the real thing", but hey ...)
