Book Review: A dangerous false trail

The author, a self-proclaimed world renowned expert, provides a litany of "reasons" underlying ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia and a host of other neurological disorders. His work is filled with unsubstantiated conjecture - including blaming absentee parenting, childhood obesity, television and computer games. His tome is filled with speculative ideas and those he has clearly stolen from striaghtforward cognitive behavioral therapy. He manages to include case studies, including a shocking one in which a ten year old boy "Patrick", clealry suffering from a serious psychological episode, is brought to his office by his ill informed parents - when he should have seen a child psychologist / psychiatrist immediately.
Melillo, who is a doctor of chiropractic, describes himself as a chiropractic neurologist. He has no published research in any medical journal and no appreciable experience in treating childhood neurological disorders. The book is not footnoted and his clear aim is to support his chain of "Barin Balance" centers across the United States. A parent may glean some useful tips about behavior modification, however, the advice given is so broad as to be essentially useless. He also dives into the tired "toxin" realm as a causative to neurological disorders. He provides no evidence supporting this claim.
Don't waste your time. This author is a shameless self-promoter who presupposes to catalog all of the trendy neurological ills attributed to children without a shred of evidence. His back jacket makes enough of a statement to warn the reader away. His short shrift of computer games belies any understanding of the genre and actually is contrdicted by the current literature. At times I felt like I was listening to a childless uncle who sought to educate me on raising my children.
"Based upon years of scientific research and used to treat approximately 1,000 children to date". And yet we find no published studies, no peer reviews and only brief and often distrubing case studies.
