Having immersed herself in Haitian culture she proceeded to write a book about it. To this date it is the best introduction to new-world vodoun you will ever find.

It is a comprehensive account of the Loa (the gods of Vodoun), the beliefs and the customs of this incredible island, which hosted a successful slave revolt in the 1800's. Here, traditional West African Vodoun from the kingdom of Oyo (later Dahomey) met a new set of challenges and cultures, all of which helped to shape it into a new breed of religion.

The book takes a little getting into, I would say that the first few pages are hideously academic. But very soon it becomes an engrossing encyclopaedia, explaining in first-hand detail everything you wanted to know and more.
