Book Reviews of Don QuixoteBook Review: translation Cervantes would have approved Summary: 5 Stars
translating any classics, centuries after it was written, is a monumental task. one question we should all ask is , why so many of us have never read this master piece in full? when i picked up this book, i finally had the answer to that question.
when Cervantes wrote this book, it was written entirely using a colloquial/everyday language. even though modern day spanish people no longer uses those terms and slangs of that era, when this book was translated in the past, the translator almost always used overtly scholastic and archaic language, resulting in often dull and literal translation.
i believe that Cervantes would have much preferred to have his text transformed into a vernacular form that we can all relate to, as he originally conceived for his own contemporary audience. a kind of book that a 16 year old can pick up and have a good laugh with his buddies. this book does just that.
