Book Reviews of Dr. Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book!Book Review: Lovingly reconfigured for tiny tots just learning to enjoy books! Summary: 5 StarsYes, this is an abridged version. But it's not mutilated. The abridgement was done very sensitively, and if you didn't know better, you'd think it was just as Dr Seuss wrote it. It really captures his joyful "voice" and his distinctive lilting rhymes.
I can't praise this board book enough. Sturdy, bright, shiny, colorful, beautifully printed, and huge*. My 7-month-old son goes crazy for these great big durable Seuss editions. He can gum the spine and smack the cover and even turn the pages eagerly (if clumsily) without wrecking the book, so we both have a great time reading it. To me, that is the point of books for the very young -- to have fun with them and teach them that reading is a joy.
I will certainly get the regular edition when he's old enough, because this edition is not quite the same book. But it is not an inferior book, either. It's "the simplest Seuss for toddlers' use," as it says on the cover. Your baby won't know about revisions or edits. All he'll know is that reading is fun and books rock, thanks to Dr. Seuss.
*(Please note that I'm reviewing to the -Oversized- Bright and Early Board Book edition, which is also sold on Amazon. The little versions are also very good in their own way, but I highly recommend getting the oversized versions when possible. They're beautifully produced and a big hit with the little ones!)
Book Review: WHO DOSEN'T LOVE SUESS Summary: 5 StarsI AM 7 MONTHS PREGNANT AND WANTED TO GET A HEAD START ON SOME BOOKS FOR MY BABY TO READ TO HIM NOW AS WELL AS WHEN HE GETS HERE... I LOVE THESE BOARD BOOKS BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO BE SO DURABLE
Book Review: you might want any other normal ABC book. Summary: 1 StarsI have to say I usually like Dr.Seuss's books but there are better ABC books out there than this. Please read the book before buying it, you may end up saving some money. Also, there are some word as usually they are not real words in this book.
Book Review: great for building up concentration Summary: 5 StarsI started reading this book almost every night to my baby when he was around six-months-old. At first we would only get to about the H before he'd lose interest. The more I read it to him the longer he'd last and before I knew it we were reading the book from A to Z. He's ten-months-old now and he loves to turn the pages all by himself.
Sometimes when he's getting fussy and I want him to calm down at bedtime I start saying "Big A, little a..." and he smiles almost every time. I have the whole book memorized now after reading it so many times and I'm still not tired of reading it to him! (I have the revised version)
Book Review: So there are two versions... so what? Summary: 5 StarsI am a Seuss loyalist, too, but I gotta say the folks that have their knickers in a bunch about the board-book abrigment are making mountains out of molehills. My baby grew up with the shortened version... we love it! If you prefer the longer, original version, that can be found as well. But this is still one of the greatest books ever written, no matter what format you find it in.
