Book Reviews of Dragon's Bait

Book Review: A Great Dragon Fantasy
Summary: 4 Stars

Have you ever had a person be nice to you for a reason, and then they end up being your best friend? Was that person a dragon? If not then you check out the book Dragon's Bait, written by Vivian Vande Velde. To read this book you will find out what it is like to lose everything, then get the greatest thing, friendship. What you least expect will happen when you read this Fantasy book, and will make you take a look at your own life.

Have you ever accused someone of being a witch? This is what happens when a town turns on a young girl named Alys. This is a great book, for it goes into great detail, and has a great storyline. This is a book for those of us that love Dragons and their myths. Dragon's Bait is a good book with detail of dragons and how they are emotionally.

A great storyline, this is what every book need. This is one of those books, and one that will make you think. A deep and interesting plot puts you into the action and the thoughts of the characters. Being in the Fantasy world makes this book even more interesting. What other book have you a dragon, a "witch", a crooked priest, and evil towns people, and with a story that also tells a great lesson that you could use in your life.

I would recommend this book, Dragon's Bait, because it is an interesting read. This book would also be up the alley for those who love fantasy books. With a great meaning, a really good storyline, and great detail I would recommend this book, then also for the lessons you learn behind the plot

Book Review: A fabulous little book!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a great book: a nice, easy-to-read page turner that had me hooked from start to finish.

I had no problems in believing any of the characters or settings. In fact, while I read this story, I was totally there! It was so compelling. Vivian Vande Velde is obviously an intelligent, accomplished author, and I look forward to reading more of her books.

The recommended reading age for this book--12 and up--was spot on, but I'd recommend it not just to teens, but to any adults who like a good fantasy read too. I mean, I'm 33 and I thought it was brilliant!

Book Review: A fantastic story!
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutly loved this book. Extraordinary plot, brilliant charaters, and superlative creativity. Dragon's Bait is about a teenage girl, Alys, who is erroneously accused of being a witch by an egocentric foreigner to her village. When her childhood friends do nothing to defend her, she is cast out of the village and doomed to be Dragons Bait. But maybe the Dragon could be the perfect ally...

This book will continuously keep you at the edge of your seat. I highly recommend Dragon's Bait to anyone who has any interest in fantasy or myths. Velde did an astonishing job!

Book Review: A solid story of revenge and friendship
Summary: 4 Stars

This book was recommended to me by a good friend, and I was very pleased with it. I'm a bit of fantasy and dragon lover, and this twist on a classic scenario was right up my alley. The writing is as solid as the story, with a subtle genius to it despite being a simple, easy-to-read book, which makes it a great book for pretty much anyone.

Alys is accused of being a witch. Her punishment is to be sacrificed to a dragon. However, things are twisted as Alys and the dragon join forces in order to exact revenge on the village. The result is a story that is part revenge drama, part friendship, and part demonstration of human nature--with plenty of heart put through all three parts.

The cast is an interesting one, with a variety of characters that go beyond mere stereotypes, though I often wished they had been fleshed out a bit more. Alys and the dragon's relationship is believable, but it's difficult to see how they came together even as one appreciates their connection. Frankly, I wish the story had been expanded a little more; it's a great idea with a great theme that could have used a bigger universe.

Still, it's a thoroughly enjoyable read.
