Book Reviews of Dragon's BaitBook Review: Alys & Selendrile Summary: 5 Stars
I first read this book when I was 12. Years later, the characters and plot are still very alive in my mind. This is something to mention, due to my attention span (not really what you'd associate with a temperament of endurance).
I like books that are fast-paced, and that do not bog the reader down with too many unnecessary details. The way the romance played out in this book was done with much skill and taste. The author engages readers of all ages, which is both admirable and inspiring.
I found myself going back to Dragon's Bait, and many other books by Vivian Vande Velde, throughout my teenage years. That hasn't really changed now that I'm older. Her books lack yawn-worthy pretentious prose which I find all too abundant in many other books for Young Adults, which is of course just in my opinion, but also why I give this delightful book five stars.

Book Review: Amazing Dragon Book! Summary: 5 Stars
Everyone who loves to see a dangerous, beautiful dragon and a strong female hero together in a novel will be thrilled by this book! It is really a very good story, full of rich detail, feeling and excitement, though the actual events unfold in a relatively short period of time. The main character is a girl, who after seeing her father's murder, is accused of witchcraft and left outside her village as "dragon's bait", to await her death. The golden dragon that descends upon her though, finds her bravery and her lust for revenge against her father's killers in the village highly entertaining and decides to join her, guised as a handsome young man and plotting with a monster's mind the way he intends to help her reach her bloody goal. A very cool book. Dragon's Bait ends in both of the main characters, dragon and girl, learning important lessons. It is not exactly a "beauty and the beast" story, thank goodness, so modern readers will find it a relief and a treat for their minds.
Book Review: Be warned... Summary: 5 Stars
Be warned...once you start this book you won't be able to put it down!
A great story about Alys who is accused of being a witch and is left for the dragon to eat. Selendril though is no ordinary dragon, but a golden dragon with the power to change shape into creatures and human. He decides not to eat her, but to help her get revenge on the people who she wanted to hurt. But Alys finds that revenge isn't always so sweet.
Another fantastic book from Vivian Vande Velde. Not quite as good as Companions of the Night, but definitely up there with Magic Can Be Murder and A Hidden Magic. Read it!
Book Review: Dragon's Bait Summary: 5 Stars
My only complaint with Vivian Vande Velde's books are that they are just so darn short. You don't want the story to end. You want to continue reading and learning more about the character and what they will do next.
What is amazing is the way she can pact so much information and feelings about the character in so few words. That requires talent. In Dragon's Bait we are brought into the time of the witch trials. Alys is accused of being a witch for no other reason than the greed of her next door neighbor who covets her father's shop. In short time, the witch finder is called, a trail commenses and she is convicted by the same people she grew up with for fifteen years.
Here's the twist, instead of the usual burning, hanging, or drowning, she is tied to a steak in dragon country and left to be eaten. Oh, the dragon definitely arrives, but he is more than she, or even he, imagined.
I've only read a handful of VVV's novels. I've been making my way through them over the last few weeks. So far I have not been disappointed once.
Book Review: Dragon's Bait Review --by Michelle Summary: 4 Stars
It was supposed to be a normal day. Alys usually stayed in the shop while her horribly sick father rested but today was no ordinary day. Today she was stuck on a stake in the middle of nowhere awaiting her doom, which happened to be the man eating dragon. How this came to be is simple. Inquisitor Atherton, a very sneaky, evil man falsely accused poor Alys of being a witch. At her 15 minute trial, a man named Gower, who had probably arranged all of this nonsense, his wife Una, and daughter Etta told of fake times when they had seen Alys bewitch things. Una said she saw Alys make a goat go dry, and Gower says she saw her creating a thunders storm and people actually believed them, and so she was sent to the mountain. Alys does get away from the stake and there is only one thing stuck on her mind....REVENGE. But she can only do it with the help of the handsome Sederline, who happens to be a man, a dragon, and whatever animal you can think of. So Sederline and Alys are off seeking revenge, on the four people who ruined Alys's life.
Dragon's Bait is a book full of witty characters and sweet revenge. Similar to something like the Salem accusations, this book is about witches. The story is well written, and has just the right amount of description. Compared to the author's other books, this has got to be one of my favorites. At first you might think this book is boring, but by the third page, the suspense keeps you going. I hope once you read it, you will agree.
