Book Reviews of Dragon's BaitBook Review: Tastes like Chicken Summary: 4 Stars
First off, I'm not a huge fantasy fanatic. I delve mostly into chick lit and YA romances, but this sparked my interest. Velde paints a wonderful and charming pictures of persecution, and the toils of revenge. The dialogue is quick-witted, the characters spunky, and the plot is quick. I wish she could've lingered a bit more on the character relationship between Selendrile and Alys as their friendship blossoms from a parasitic contract into...well, you'll see. I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel, that's for sure!
If you aren't a huge fan of high-fantasy, at least give this one a try. Velde's writing is charming and cuts to the point. She doesn't over-flatter the reader with useless adjectives or page-long descriptions. She writes in a flow that's so quick, you find yourself turning to the last page before you know it!
Wonderfully written. It comes highly recommended by a non-fantasy bookworm!
Book Review: This book is real keeper... Summary: 5 Stars
Very very nce book a real favorite of mine. The message, that revenge isn't as sweet as it seems, is quite averge but the way it is told is exciting and breathtaking. Much so that it is almost hidden in the run around plot. but still learned. But like all Vivian's books the tale is kept lighter then most books with this message. Really a must read.
Book Review: Too Cool! Summary: 5 Stars
This was an awesome book! I love the Dragon! He was so cool! Well, okay, I have this thing with dragons, but still, he was neat. I wish Vivian would write another book about those Dragons. Alys was good too. She was spunky and she did learn a good lesson about revenge. Her relationship with the dragon was fun to watch. This is a book to buy.
Book Review: Well, it could have been longer... Summary: 3 Stars
Vivian Vande Velde wrote a great book, but i was did not like the fact that she added romantic value near the end. But that's just me. I am not a romantic person, i am a boring pessimist. Knowing most people do not care, i will not ranton and on about it. (this annoyed my friends for some odd reason.)
The book was simply to short. And that's so sad. But i liked almost all of the chacters with a few exceptions. Like the witch trial dude, he was simply fake. And inconsistent.
Over all, this book had a few cliches and a slighty overly perfect herione, but that's okay, because you never realize until the third read. but the fact that it's good enouogh to be read several times makes it worth it.
I am sadly not strikingly gorgeous nor intelligent, though I take comfort from the fact that being striking would probably hurt.
-This is funny, isn't it?
Book Review: Witty and charming. Summary: 5 Stars
Dragon's Bait is wonderfully hilarious. I only picked this book up because I had some gift cards for the book store. I expected that I'd read it once, and it would simply sit on my bookshelf until the end of the world. It's a good thing I like Vivian Vande Velde and picked this up, because it is fantastic! Yes, it's short, but the story itself more than makes up for it.
Alys is quick on her feet, funny, and notices the irony in her prediciments. Selendrile is intense, and you can't help but find yourself attracted to his character. The relationship between Alys and Selendrile is incredibly amusing to say the least. Each keeps the other on their toes.
The storyline is fast paced, but well thought out. Everything is clearly thought out, and displayed in a way that draws you into the story.
The moment I finished reading Dragon's Bait, I read it again. When I lent it out to a friend, she did the same. I recommend Dragon's Bait to anyone who appreciates humor, fantasy, or any of Vivian Vande Velde's other books. You won't be disappointed.
