<u>Dragon Rider</u> is a thrilling quest about a boy, a dragon, and a brownie. They journey from home to find the magical land where the dragons live in peace, The Rim of Heaven, and where their fearless foe, Nettlebrand, cannot find them. As I dug deeper into this adventuresome tale, I uncovered secrets about the dragons' past and their feared enemy, also referred to as the Golden One. I found myself connecting to the characters such as Ben, the dragon rider, and Sorrell, the brownie, and sometimes even Firedrake, the dragon. I got to tag along as they encountered this incredible journey and uncover Ben's hidden destiny.
My language arts class advised me to read some of Cornelia Funke's writing, and for the first book I read by her, it was a great place to start. Funke has a way to capture the reader and become part of the story, so they are not only reading it but actually getting involved, in a way. As soon as I picked up this book, I was hooked. Also, Funke's writing is filled with adventure, destiny and thrills beyond imagination, for me at least. Young adult readers and even adult readers will surely enjoy this magical novel. I, too, will most likely read other novels by Funke.
