Originally published in 1993, Poppy Z. Brite's second novel remains on my top ten list for good reasons. You like your horror on the funny side? You like it kinda sexy? Have I got the book for you . . .When Trevor McGee returns to the small town of Missing Mile, NC to confront the demons of his past he finds out that he may get more than he bargained for. There's the ghost of his cartoonist father, Bobby, (think of a REALLY unstable R. Crumb) for one thing . . . And then there's the computer hacker, Zachary Bosch, for another thing. And Zach's got problems of his own . . .
My one complaint concerns the slightly ludicrous rock show that takes place, but, after repeated readings, I've come to appreciate it more.
Subculture coolness, wicked humour, sex appeal, and OUTSTANDING characterization make this psychological haunted-house story a collector's item for all horror aficionados.
