Book Reviews of Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshippers, and Other Pagans in America

Book Review: A very insightful overview of this fascinating subject area.
Summary: 5 Stars

A good overview of the pagan movement can be obtained by reading Margot Adler's Drawing Down the Moon. Margot gives a very insightful overview of this broad and fascinating subject area. She also suggests that attending a pagan festival or two is a great way to meet diverse and like minded individuals. I just finished reading her book and was delighted and intrigued to learn more about my many friends associated with various aspects of the movement. Dr. George R. Harker, a.k.a. Dr. Leisure (DrLeisure.com is a great source for additional information on the pagan scene.)

Book Review: excellent historical review
Summary: 5 Stars

I highly recommend this book to anyone, new to or familiar with Wicca, as an excellent exploration of the history right up to why there is such a revival in the present... I own it and love it.... buy it, it's one to have!!

Book Review: Misleading and extreme
Summary: 1 Stars

I am a practicing Witch/Wiccan of more than five years and this is by far the worst book on the subject I have ever had the unfortunate luck to have picked up. "Drawing Down the Moon" is a book that does not explain the religion as it was or is; it is an extremist vision of "feminist Witchcraft" that acts mainstream.. Last time I checked there was a balance; the Goddess and the God, but you would never know that by reading this book. It is akin to David Koresh writing a general explanitory book about Christianity. This is most definetly NOT a book for anyone who wants a book on the religion of Wicca and to say it falls under "Witchcraft" is quite a stretch.

Book Review: An excellent "buyer's guide" the the NeoPagan movement.
Summary: 5 Stars

The only book of its kind, DDtM gives the reader a journalistic overview of the many different faces of NeoPagan worship -- Druids and Wiccans, C.A.W. and Discordians -- all are given their due.

There are so many things that a person can mean when s/he says "Pagan" or "Witch" that this book is an essential guide.

Also includes extensive contact information for Pagan individuals and groups worldwide.

Book Review: One of the 2 essentials on any Pagan bookshelf
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is so dense and well written that it serves both as an introduction to Paganism and as a reference to consult when questions arise. I value the new edition for updates of resources
