Book Review: "Brood" is more like it.

I have read a number of Dan Simmonds' books over the years. I have to say that this is the worst one he has written. The main character is the ego-manic, drug taking bore Wilkie Collins. The best part of this tale is the descriptive phases of the worse areas of old London. I kept reading the book hoping to find some thread of sense. Never happened. I'm sure that the intent was to get into the mind of Wilkie (much like the Beetle did in his drug induced state). For me it didn't work. The book was too long and rambling. I was glad to finish it. If a book is good you don't want it to end. Dan Simmonds has written some winners before-The Crook Factory, The Terror, Summer of Night and Children of Night all were worth the read. Sadly, Drood was not.
