Book Reviews of Drowning Ruth: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club)Book Review: couldnt put it down Summary: 5 StarsI just loved this book...its an easy read and will keep u engrossed from beginning to end.
Book Review: Almost a Great Book Summary: 4 StarsDrowning Ruth was an engrossing and beautiful story from the beginning. A pleasant surprise as I'm not typically a fan of Oprah's book lists. I was looking for a good read over the holidays and what a perfect fit that kept me turning pages late into the night. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because even though the story was interesting and extremely well written, there was just something missing that kept it from being a truly great book. I believe for me it was the ending. The story kept building to what you thought would be either a great revelation or twist at the end but instead ended abruptly and very predictably. Still a good story and worth the read.
Book Review: Overblown Summary: 2 StarsI just finished Drowning Ruth and I was completly unimpressed. I've been looking forward to reading this novel for awhile. It earned two stars for an interesting beginning and fairly decent writing. The problems with the book are that 1) There is no mystery, you know from the second chapter what occured between Amanda, her sister and Ruth. Consequently you know exactly how the story will unfold; and 2) It's way too overlong. The entire middle 150 pages was repetitve and boring. This novel would have made a wonderful short story, but as a full length book it is unsatisfying. I strongly urge you to pick-up one of the other fabulous books that Oprah has recommended over the last few years.
Book Review: The BEST BOOK I have ever read!!!! Summary: 5 StarsI am an avid reader and this book was by far the best book I have ever read. It started out a little slow, but by the second chapter it had me so hooked that I could not put it down. It keeps you guessing and trying to figure out what is going to happen next until the very end. I wish I could give it more than just 5 stars!!
Book Review: excellent! Summary: 4 Starsdont take the fact that i rated it four meaning it's not an amazing book... im very picky with what i rate 5 stars.
this book was incredible. it took me a while to get through because they beginning was just introduction and everything seemed rather confusing at first, especially the title of the book, because it was not ruth who drowned, but her mother.
as i inched towards the end of the novel, i got closer and closer to the characters and slowly learned more and more about them. even though the story switches who narrates, in the end everything connects.
my favorite part of the book was definately as everything started to come together in this great mystery of lies, physcology, and secrets. as the end comes near and the different aspects weave together, you are shocked at the twist in the end of the novel that, as you close it, leaves you thinking for a long time.
this book was excellent and is so realistic it's hard not to believe that it could have very well happened. the characters are roudned very well and you grow attached and almost start to feel with the characters as you read on.
excellent read. i highly recommend it to people who like more realistic types of mysteries and depressing life stories. however, i do recommend it to anyone.
