Book Reviews of Duck on a BikeBook Review: A Story with Perspective Summary: 4 Stars
Duck on a Bike is a whimsical tale about a duck who seizes the opportunity to do something out of the ordinary. After spying a parked red cruiser, he decides to take a ride. As he passes the rest of his barnyard friends, they all express their opinions in their native tongues (moo, meow, squeak, m-a-a-a, etc...) Just like people, they all think something different. Some are scared, one is boastful, some appear jealous, and one could care less. Yet, when a gaggle of kids flies by and parks their bikes in front of a house, all of the animals are struck with the idea that what duck is doing isn't so bad after all.It is great to see the barnyard animals grasping at handlebars with hoofs and wings. The pigs ride a tandem bike, rooster a tricycle, and goat gets her wish as she munches innocently on the bike's basket. After all, kids will be kids. Shannon uses interesting perspective and great staging to bring the illustrations in this book to life. The bicycles are rendered beautifully, and the style of illustration is very different than the one he uses in the David books. It is worth it to buy this book for the artwork alone. Don't pass the last page of this book without paying attention, or else you'll miss the next big adventure duck is planning!
Book Review: A delightful childrens book Summary: 5 Stars
Of the dozens of books on my two year old's shelf, this is mine and my wifes favorite. The delightful story engages my daughter and she enjoys the animal and the plot. It also offers great opportunities for funny voices and interaction. Several adult jokes are burried within the pictures that will also amuse. All and all, this is the best recent childrens book you can buy. Don't miss the last page.
Book Review: An Engaging Story for All Ages Summary: 5 Stars
This happens to be my nephew's favorite book (and it's the third copy he's worn out). Duck on a Bike a delightful story about a dare-devil duck who sets off an bike riding adventure. On his journey around the farm, he greets other animas who in turn get jealous of his biking skills. In the end, all of the animals get a chance to join in on the fun!
As an elementary school teacher, I highly recommend this book for children of all ages. The story is engaging and the illustrations capture the joy of the story!
