Book Review: 2nd of the Trilogy runs a little long
Summary: 3 Stars
In the 2nd book of the trilogy, the author focuses more on the relationship between Darcy and his sister, Georgiana. We are given a glimpse of his younger sister as she is maturing into a woman.
This book feels long and there is a little too much focused on religion and on Georgiana's new fascination with charity work. I felt that this subplot meandered too much and without clear direction for the 1st half. Although this subplot is important for later, it could have been more cleanly executed (and much shorter).
In the 2nd half of this book, it seems altogether new book as we delve into a very different subplot which introduces a menagerie of new characters and intrigue. This was interesting as it gave the reader a glimpse of the indulgences of the wealthy and it shows Darcy's attempts to meet eligible young ladies. It also introduces a mystery whodunit. Rather odd inserted into this book, but acceptable overall.
The 2nd book in this series felt disjointed, almost as if this was meant to have been a 2nd and 3rd book, but then merged into one because of total length. This book is only a wee bit longer than the 1st but *feels* so much longer. I kept looking to see how many pages were left, which was completely opposite my experience with the 1st book. As I read, I kept wondering where the author was going, but the subplots introduced in this book do carry into the 3rd, so it is worth pushing through to get to the 3rd book (which is a rewarding read).
