Book Reviews of Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Italy, India and Indonesia

Book Review: Interesting Read
Summary: 4 Stars

This is like reading someone's diary, but in more depth.... I really enjoyed this book and some of the Author's thoughts on life etc I could really relate to. I think we are all the same in the end... looking for something but not sure what! It was a great book and even though I didn't relate to all of her "religious" experiences I certainly enjoyed reading about her journey.

Book Review: Love her or hate her, but you gotta read her!
Summary: 4 Stars

The success of this book depends on how much you take to Elizabeth Gilbert. This account of her search for.....happiness, self-enlightenment, fulfillment.......at first makes you groan, but she is so gung-ho and so full of humour that you cannot help loving her. At first, I could not quite decide whether she was incredibly stupid, or incredibly wise..... I ended up thinking 75% wise, 25% stupid. Whatever she is, she is a terrific writer, has incredible wit, and sends herself up all the way.
I would advise skipping Part Two, set in an Indian ashram, but that could be because I'm allergic to ashrams. The Part One (Italy) and Part Three (Bali) are easily worth the price of the book. She describes people wonderfully, and you do want to know what is going to happen to her. Finally, you cannot help but end up loving her, and her book, even though at times it skirts dangerously near a "Hallmark Devotional" card.
This unique blend of travel, self-help, and autobiography, needs a category of its own; self-help travelogue? On the road self-improvement?
I tip my hat to this writer, she knows what she is doing and she strips herself naked for the reader's pleasure. And there is a lot of pleasure in this book. Read it! There is no picture of the author, although we long for one. Why do I mentally picture Ruby Wax?

Book Review: A near masterpiece
Summary: 4 Stars

The only aspect marring Elizabeth Gilbert's well-written book is her self-absorbtion, and after reading the book, I came to think that this is part of its point. You have to be self-absorbed to even dream of writing such a stripped naked account of your own psysche. Her humour (or wit) saves her from being impossible.
In fact, I think she has written a new kind of book....a mix of travel, self-help and autobiography.
Whatever you think of her as a person, you must agree that this woman is a writer.....in her bones and by vocation.....she knows how to hold a reader. She knows how to bring the people she describes to life - vividly- so that you feel you have met them.
In fact, you feel you have been on this journey with Liz Gilbert.....what higher recommendation?
I rarely go out and buy 3 copies of a book for my closest friends: I did this time!

Book Review: not my cup of tea..
Summary: 2 Stars

I am sorry to say but this is one of the few books that I couldn't finish. It was well written and very factual but a lot of the book (well the part I read) was based on religion and yoga and praying and I just couldn't get into it.

Book Review: Happy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am feeling very happy since i read this book... like really content... this book has put back the smile on my face and in my heart... i loved every bit of it... I even ended up falling in love with Elizabeth... not that i am gay or anything but she appeared to be what i aspire to be, i guess... it was great!
