Book Reviews of Ellen FosterBook Review: why the sudden interest? Summary: 3 Stars
I read this book nearly 10 years ago and found it to be unremarkable...Now because Oprah's read it, the rest of the world finds it remarkable?
Book Review: yuck Summary: 2 Stars
I've read other books by Kaye Gibbons and this one can not be counted as one of her best. The sort of stream of concious writing made me want to just get through the book instead of enjoying this highly recommended book. Each page made me cringe as I made myself read paragraph after paragraph. I can't believe that Oprah has such bad taste in books.
Book Review: ~ ! I RECOMMEND IT! ~ Summary: 4 Stars
Dear Peers,
Ellen Foster was a very depressing life story. It was very vivid and self-explained. For every step she took I could actually put my self in her position. I could picture it and I can image what it would be like. I can understand her and her reasons for hating him like when she felt all that hate for her dad because of all his mistakes and the tragedies he caused her. Lets face it wouldn't you hate your dad for being the one who caused your mother's death when she deserved to life? For a girl, life is nothing without their mom. Ellen foster was mistreated mentally and physically. She was mostly affected by her mothers death and having to live with her grandmother. Ellen foster had to get away from her father because her dad lost custody of her. She kept on running away, never home and at a place where she was forbidden. She would hang around her African-American friend. Once she moved in with her grandma life was a living hell for her she thought she could have more time for herself and less arguments, she thought wrong. Whenever she looked at her should would reply," your face is so disturbing like your fathers, stupid bastard. You disgust me!" At times she would want to break down. But what I could enjoy the most was that I can put myself in her place and this is something that can happen to anyone. People can relate to these kinds of situations. If you really enjoy reading about non-fiction novels this is a good book for you. If you are that kind of person that likes to be able to picture everything, every moment, and every place in the story this is a good book for you. If you don't like books that are depressing and emotional this isn't the book for you. But trust me you never know. I am the kind of person that doesn't like books and for me to recommend this book makes you have something to think about.
Sincerely
Jessica Marroquin
