Book Reviews of Elvis: Still Taking Care of BusinessBook Review: Sonny's New Book is a Great Read Summary: 4 Stars"This is the book Sonny West probably wishes had come out in 1977. It would have been every bit as controversial and thought-provoking as Elvis: What Happened, but free of the sensationalistic approach of its predecessor. It also is free of the daunting task of challenging the book's subject. This book will satisfy the diehard fans, yet it also will appeal to casual readers who don't need, or want, all of the details of Elvis's decline. This reads as an expose without the shock value; and, in a world littered with literary one-upsmanships, this Elvis book is a welcome addition. Brutally honest and full of interesting stories, Sonny succeeds where many others have failed--he doesn't constantly remind the reader how close he was to Elvis. You can feel it. With this book, Sonny comes full circle from the project which caused all the fuss in the first place, and might easily be subtitled Elvis: What Happened (No Longer Matters)."
Book Review: THANK YOU, SONNY! Summary: 5 StarsI've read over 200 books written about Elvis, and this is ONE OF THE BEST. I couldn't put it down! This book is written with a great deal of love and honesty. Every true Elvis fan should read it. You won't be sorry.
Thank you, Sonny, for writing this book.
Book Review: Sonny West's no holds-barred memoir of his life with Elvis Summary: 5 StarsInfuriatingly open and honest, you'll find that you just want to shake some sense into Elvis and into those around him during the pinnacle of Elvis's drug use and his obsession with firearms. Then Sonny reminds us all how human each of us is, including Elvis; and, that no one is the sum total of their mistakes or their choices. Not your typical "Elvis" book, Sonny West offers insight that no one but someone at the side of Elvis can possibly know. Along with biographer Marshall Terrill, Sonny has created an image of Elvis that goes beyond pop culture into the loneliness and humanness of a man thrust into a life that eventually swallows him up. You'll laugh out loud, certainly get ticked off, shake your head in absolute wonder. It's a book not to be missed.
Book Review: Elv is: Still Taking Care of Business Summary: 5 StarsIt was my distinct pleasure to help edit Sonny West's new book, "Elvis Still Taking Care of Business". Not only was I able to relive some of those magical memories, but I learned many fascinating facts about Elvis I had not known before. This book is the most honest book ever written about Elvis by someone close to him who loved him. That love is obvious page after page, though sometime painfully. This book should be a definite addition to any library; not just Elvis fans, but for anyone who wants to know Elvis.
