Book Review: Disappointing

Ok, I haven't finished the book yet, but I am very close. To sum up, the story is about a magical book that contains ultimate/unlimited knowledge. However, the semi-sentient book does not ever want to/cannot ever be read by anyone, not even the main character (except in small useless bits).
So then, what is the point of this "last book"? This had all the elements of a great fantasy, but it fell flat. Why would anyone want a book that can't be/shouldn't be read? It would be like having the world's fastest car, but no one can drive it, or finding a spaceship that doesn't go anywhere. What's the point? Why bother?
At one point the book absorbs all the other books in an old library, leaving the shelves bare. Well, you might as well have lit them on fire because either way they are now unreadable and gone! How does this make sense???
This story is a swing and a miss. With just a little more imagination, the author could have taken us on a wonderful journey full of magic and mystery. Instead he just told us to stay home. I want my time back.
