Book Reviews of Enna Burning (Books of Bayern)

Book Review: Slightly Dissapointed
Summary: 3 Stars

I really enjoyed reading Goose Girl; the ideas seemed fresh and the story felt original. I dug right into books two and three but unfortunately the magic was gone. Enna burning dragged on and seemed a little too predictable. There was a little too much of the obviously incorrect "I think everyone hates me" emotional conflict. It almost felt like I was reading twilight.

There were some highlights like the final chapters and the first chapters. I think the storyline is solid enough, but it just didn't seem as polished or suspenseful as book one.

Book Review: The Best I've Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read several of Hale's novels, and I thought this was one of her best. While the others were great stories, they started out slowly. Enna Burning, however, caught my attention right at the start and held it to the end. Enna Burning takes place during a war, and Enna uses her talents to help save her country from its enemies. However, the necessary violence and other war-time events were mildly described through Enna's "beautiful" point of view and never made me cringe in horror or concern for younger readers. Hale has done a great job!

Book Review: The Power of Flame
Summary: 5 Stars

I wish I'd read the Goose Girl first just because I like things in order but this was still a good read. Enna has to fight hard to not end up like her brother who also learned the power of flames. The storyline evolves as she gains skill and fights against the addiction of fire that calls to her and wants to consume her. As with any addict there are missteps, things that they wish they'd never done but any step in the right direction is good. She is so loved and surrounded by a strong support network. I really appreciate that this story can stand alone as I hate to be lead into a series that leaves one hanging and where not all the volumes are as worthy as the others.

Book Review: You can't go wrong
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this book. Read it twice, finally own it. It is a YA book that actually teaches values. You can't go wrong with it.

Book Review: a bit dark
Summary: 3 Stars

I read this about a year ago and enjoyed it it had a very mystical feel to it but it was not as good as the goose girl. my main problem with the book was that the entire feel of it was darker while some may like dark stories I have a limit and this was pretty close to the line.
