Book Reviews of EscapeBook Review: A MUST READ ABOUT POLYGAMY & FLDS! Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book just before everything started to blow apart in the national spotlight with Warren Jeffs. This book, written by a woman who was born & grew up in that world, is a first hand look at the FLDS, Polygamy, what it's like to be one of many wives to a man with influence in that world, how incredibly difficult & dangerous it is for the women to even attempt to escape with their own children, how brainwashed the kids become and how difficult it is to deal with the aftermath of the abuse within the FLDS world. After you read this true story you'll start calling it by its true name just as I do now: CULT.
This woman's story dovetails into the beginning of the end; Warren Jeffs. More importantly however, her story is so vivid, so filled with emotional turmoil, that you will be utterly appalled that this has been allowed to continue for over 100 years after polygamy was outlawed in this country.
The men believe that they ARE Gods in the making; the ultimate dictator to his "family", and should be obeyed without question, and they expect the wives & children to willingly submit to punishments if they disobey. The wives are constantly back-stabbing, manipulating, jockeying for position. etc., (Unless of course the mental strain is too much for them, and they crack under the pressure, then quietly go insane.) and the children see all of it, believe it's the "normal way of life", they're being brainwashed from the day they're born.
To think that this is all done in the name of God and Warren Jeffs! To their way of "thinking", God & Jeffs are just about one & the same. Those few, like this woman, who don't think that, know very well they do not DARE to say it aloud anywhere, because the consequences of being ratted out to Jeffs and his bullies are something they all know to be very afraid of.
This book was sad, sickening, heart and gut wrenching...it'll put you through the emotional ringer, and in the end you'll see that Carolyn Jessop, one woman with several small children, one of which is a special needs child, lived her life in fear, but she still found the courage to persevere. Her determination through her struggle, which is still on-going in several ways, will make you want to stand up and applaud this extraordinary woman and mother.

Book Review: A Must Read Summary: 5 Stars
This book was hard to read, because it is full of the author's painful memories. What you read will be hard to imagine. I stopped reading several times to remind myself that this happened in America. It is well-written, and I felt that I knew Carolyn Jessop at the end of the book. I certainly admire her strength and courage.
Book Review: A Must Read! Summary: 5 Stars
Yesterday I started Escape by Carolyn Jessop and I couldn't put it down. What an incredible story! Ms. Jessop is a hero and an inspiration. I must admit that had I not had the experience of living in St. George, Utah for the past 5 years I would find her story hard to believe - however I am sure that every word is true. My heart goes out to Ms. Jessop and her children and I wish them the best and hope that they overcome their years of programming, abuse and adversity and live long, free, happy and healthy lives. Ms. Jessop's story is distrubing and frightening - to think that there are so many hopeless people enduring a life of horrible abuse, all in the name of God. I praise Ms. Jessop for her role in bringing down the evil criminal Warren Jeffs and I pray that the other evil heartless criminal Merril Jessop will also find his just rewards in this life. A lifetime in jail is a fitting punishment for both of these despicable men. Hurray to you Carolyn, you are a brave woman and my new hero.
