Book Reviews of EscapeBook Review: ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BOOK IVE EVER READ!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a slow reader and finished this in four days when usually it would take a month or so. Ever chapter had me saying "OMG!!" The life she endured and the things these people go through and then believe in. I usually give my books away but for some reason...this book is very special to me.
Book Review: AWESOME!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. This story captured my heart. Carolyn is to be commended for exposing the 'real life trauma' that she was trapped in. This book should be read by everyone. Mormon or not to shed light on this disturbing lifestyle. Great Book!!!
Book Review: Amazed Summary: 5 Stars
Living in Texas I was shocked and alarmed at what I was seeing on the television with regards to the recent raid on the compound in Eldorado. I also recall the problems in Waco years ago. This type of faith is something that I cannot understand. After reading the book I still found it extremely hard to understand how even generations of this life style continue to remain. It is almost as if the indivduals live under some influence that I truly cannot understand. I would never have allowed the things to go on in my household to my children that these people seem to accept without question. It definitely opened my eyes to the weaknesses within our society. I found the book to be an easy read and I was unable to put it down. I must commend the author on her bravery to make a better place for her family.
Book Review: Amazed Summary: 4 Stars
I was compelled to read this book. I've been following the news on FLDS for a few years ever since I heard about Warren Jeffs and his followers. I still don't quite understand the mentality of these people but I now have some insight into that life. What Carolyn Jessop did was amazing and I wish her well. I hope other women (and men for that matter) in the FLDS can somehow get the courage to leave as well even though they may never read her story.
Book Review: Amazing Amazing Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
This book affected me deeply. I have always been facinated with "Polygs" as we called them, since I moved to Southern Utah from California back in the 70"s. We lived in Kanab and a couple times a year would go to Colorado City to share messages from the bible. We would have to call ahead, but then the officials would let us come. As soon as we arrived, their police would follow us the whole time, people would rarely come to the doors, and is was very very erie and undbelievable to witness. Back then there was nothing written on what went on, but we had heard plenty of stories. It was like stepping into a time warp.
Well, this book validates everything I had heard and more than I could ever had imagined. This is the best book I have read non-fiction ever. Ophrah did her an injustice in so brief an interview. We should request this be in her book club reading.
Congratulations Carolyn for being so strong and never giving up. I hope you will be happy and that you will write another book. It was truly a eye opener to what goes on in this country. And like someone else previously stated, the LDS believe the same things pretty much as FLDS, except when they were having trouble with the law the interestingly enough, they recieved a revelation that they no longer needed to practiced polyogamy. Great timing for that revelation. I think they also got a revelation it was okay to drink COCA- COLA around the time they purchased the COCA -COLA company.
