Book Reviews of Evasion

Book Review: Interesting
Summary: 4 Stars

I wish the Evasion kid went more into detail on certain things. I don't think that he was very clear on why exactly he was vegan, why he became homeless, why he did anything at all. It was just "free" but I wanted to understand his ideas a bit better, I suppose. If he has ideas, I mean.

He reminds me of some of my friends. I started working an "under the table" job and I'm not "selling out" or giving into "the man" I'm just making money. And it's annoying when I've worked my [...] off then I have moocher friends like the Evasion kid that have no problem having you pay their way. Clearly not everyone can live like this kid.

Interesting though. I'm going to have to pass it on to some friends.

Book Review: Interesting experiences. Ridiculous politics.
Summary: 3 Stars

Writing a review about 3 years after reading it. Spent time with the author's crowd and even talked to him a little.

Good things: fun stories with a loose flowing conversational feel, and achieves some superficial excitement. I learned a few things in here that saved my life when broke.

Bad things: for every authentic experience there's a pseudo-rebellious observation that sounds like it comes from the worst mooch of a roommate you could ever imagine. You know the kind- rants against the man, sob stories when the rent's due, and won't do the dishes. The book sounds like it's trying really hard to justify something that's pretty lame.

Book Review: Life is what you do for a living... not work.
Summary: 5 Stars

If you get this book, you WILL read it, and you WILL think about leaving your job, and whole life behind at least one time... for about a week or so. When you walk down the sidewalk and you see some begging homeless punk kid, and think, "I wonder if that's him" and then the college kid behind you drops some change into his cup... you feel bad, he has much less money than you and he just gave what might be the author of the book you're reading money! Actually the author is the average looking college looking kid, and he is the one living off dumpsters, not that kid in rags for clothes. How does this work? America throws out alot of good stuff, why not use it for something other than land fill? Read the book, think about it, then make friends with him... I did, and by the way his name is Mack. There is no way you will not love this book, or the author.

Book Review: Mental Chains
Summary: 2 Stars

While the author shook off the chains the wage-slavery society, he is much less proficent in shaking off the chains of the ideas he has about himself. The author seems to suffer from a cult of his own personality, which makes the book less about freedom and more about him defining himself. I am sorry to say that this is not "revolutionary", but quite ordinary. Having travelled and lived in India, I have seen true renounciates...of both body and mind. One star is in recognition of the courage required to live that way, and the second is in recognition that in order to live that way in a society such as ours, maybe a strong self-image/arrogance is needed. WHAT A PROFOUND MEASAGE IT WOULD BE IF IT WASN'T!

Book Review: Reality we need in these times.
Summary: 5 Stars

Evasion is a perfect example of when an individual decides to put down the normal conventions on society, and take his life back to a place is should be. This is definetley not a book for the close minded, but if you really want to see a flip side of Amerika, this is a great read.
