The Book Exploring the Night Sky is about astronomy. The book has three different sections. The first section is A Cosmic Voyage, describes how fast light travels through the galaxy. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second. The moon is 1.3 light-seconds from earth and our planet is 500 light-seconds from the sun. It talks about comets, which are city sized chunks of material, mostly water ice. It talks about the three different types of galaxies which are spiral galaxies, elliptical galaxies, and irregular galaxies. The five biggest galaxies are Andromeda, the Milky Way, Triangulum, Large Magellanic Cloud, and the final galaxy of M110. The second section is Alien Vistas, this section talks about all the planets. The order of the planets starting at the sun is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. It talks about each planet characteristics and how they are similar and differ from one another. The third section is Stargazing; it talks about the different constellations in the night sky. Stars are most visible in the winter and least visible in autumn. It talks about the different constellations and their locations in the sky. Some of the major constellations are the Big Dipper (which is not a true constellation but a name for the seven brightest stars of Usra Major), Orion, and Cassiopeia. This book is full of interesting and helpful facts for new astronomers. The book gives you a great understanding of the stars, sky, planets, solar system, and the universe.
I enjoyed reading this book because astronomy has always interested me. I found this book very informative and easy to understand. The exhibits and facts throughout the book helped provide me with greater knowledge of astronomy. I recommend this book to all ages who are interested in the solar system beyond earth.
