Book Review: There are gems - but one has to dig

On starting this book my initial impression was not favourable. It is New Age in feel and is over-earnest in both style and content. I almost gave up on it but instead persevered and am glad I did. The book does have content of real, and practical, value and which, for example, really does enable one to swing a putter (or other golf club) with noticeably more freedom.
A comparison with analogous books may be helpful. Bob Rotella's various books (which, though variable in quality, are really good - especially 'Putting Out of Your Mind') also emphasise the importance of freedom but, in content and style, are very different from Shoemaker. Gallwey's 'Inner Game...' and Shoemaker are quite similar in underlying approach but, in my opinion, Shoemaker's is the more useful in containing actionable exercises that develop freedom of golf stroke execution.
