Book Reviews of FOOP!Book Review: An insane book that helped keep me sane. Summary: 5 Stars
This was one of a bunch of books my wife sent me while I was over in Iraq. They were all funny books, but this one stood out as far and away the funniest. Some books made me smirk, others grin, but this one had me chuckling out loud and shaking my head. I read it twice, and re-read other passages a bunch more times. While the book doesn't concern the military, there are some themes in here that will resonate with many soliders. In a way, it's somewhat like a Catch 22 for today shining a light on the absurdity of man. But above that stuff, it's just plain silly and crazy, and sometimes all you want to do is laugh and forget about things for a few pages. My copy never made it back home since it got passed around so much and ended up who knows where. I wanted to thank the author for giving me a bunch of laughs when I sorely needed them.
Book Review: Attention! Summary: 5 Stars
To all of the naysayers out there (I'm speaking to you, stuffy old timers), Foop! may not be for you. It was written by a cool 20 something year-old guy who has a sense of humor more akin to Adult Swim cartoons than whatever old school satire you may have read in the past. So if you only like books written by really old dudes, this book may not be your cup of tea.
Foop! was written for people of my generation by someone of my generation. I'm in my 20s, and I found almost every page of this book hilarious. Not smirking hilarious, but full out laughing my butt off hilarious. It's clear that all of you people coming on here to bash it just didn't get the humor, which is the heart and soul of the book.
The humor here is more for fans of awesome writers like Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, and Hunter S. Thompson. Balls to the wall type stuff that reads like the crazy thoughts that sometimes run through your head. It's cult fiction through and through. So if you're looking for the same old mass market slop guys like Pratchett have been stuffing down your throat for way too long, then look elsewhere. This is something new, and it's not for you. It's for me, and a lot of younger people out there who think that Genoa is one crazy little monkey of an author.
Keep writing, Chris. We need you.
Book Review: Bizarro! Summary: 5 Stars
Chris Genoa is, as advertised, a literary lunatic. And if he keeps writing bizarro books like this he'll be my favorite writer in no time flat. Someone recommended this book to fans of Adult Swim cartoons, and I can see why. Foop! has a lot of that same brand of crazy humor you'd find in those cartoons, but with a nice literary touch. So it's good and good for you. Highly recommended for fans of bizarre humor and really for anyone who likes to laugh.
Book Review: Book Summary: 5 Stars
Great Book, arrived early,in great condition. If you love Christopher Moore you'll love this author. Equally witty and fun to read. Definite brain candy!
Book Review: Brilliant! Funny! And completely original. Summary: 5 Stars
You will not read a more original, intelligent, comical book this year. A great journey that is easy to pick up. It's like the humor and absurdity of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" meets the tragic adventures of Donleavy's "The Ginger Man" and Beckett's "Murphy" with the best imagination and storybuilding of anything written by modern authors such as Will Self and David Foster Wallace. Only it's nothing like any of those. A great read.
