Book Reviews of Fancy Nancy

Book Review: A Breath of Fancy Fresh Air!
Summary: 5 Stars

Fancy Nancy loves fancy clothes and knows fancy words. When she decides to teach her family how to be fancy, the results are comical. How will her family help when she falls on her face on her big night?

Encouragers in a strong family really can help each member to be creative and happy! And, isn't it nice to see a successful, family with a mother and father back in literature again?

What a terrific story to help introduce vocabulary development! Readers will be motivated to learn fancy French words and replace "plain" words with "fancy" words. Research says there is a strong link between vocabulary and success! Nancy is on her way!

The brilliant illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser in Fancy Nancy bring the text and story to life and extend discussion possibilities.

Book Review: A STAR IS BORN
Summary: 4 Stars

I think this is the first in a delightful series that takes a fresh look at a young child's imagination and creativity. What makes the book captivating is that it is based in the real world. There is the makeover of a simple bedroom and the makeover of an ordinary family going to a fast food restaurant. Who would have thought this simple beginning could morph into the wonderful world of Fancy Nancy. The only problem I encountered was that my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter could not really enjoy this title in the series because there is so much emphasis on "parents" and "family". She is struggling to understand why her parents are no longer together and getting divorced. The book turned out to be too painful for her to read, but she loves Fancy Nancy with all her heart.

Book Review: A birthday present...
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this book on a recommendation for a librarian friend, for a "fancy" niece's 4th birthday. I did read it, and loved it, I just hope my niece loves it as much as my daughter & I did when we sat down with it. Terribly cute, and a great lesson for all.

Book Review: A charming tale that will bring the fanciness out in everyone...
Summary: 4 Stars

Nancy has always believed one very important thing: everything is better when it's fancy. However, when it comes down to it, Nancy is the only person in her family who has come to this realization. She's the one who wears a tiara everywhere she goes, orders sprinkles on her ice cream, uses French words in everyday conversations, and wears sparkly, studded shoes with all of her outfits. Now, however, Nancy believes that it's time to spread the fanciness through her family, and decides to teach them the main rules of being fancy, and change them for one enchanted evening, when Nancy will, most certainly, not be the only person who's fancy in her family.

Nancy is a precocious young girl, who quickly embraces all things fancy, and brings the reader flashbacks of the star of the ELOISE series. Jane O'Connor has channeled her inner-six-year-old, and come out with a pint-sized Paris Hilton, who wants nothing more than to shine in a semi-boring world. The illustrations - by Robin Preiss Glasser - which accompany the lovely prose of this enchanting story truly bring the fancy world of Nancy to life. A charming tale that will bring the fanciness out in everyone.
