Book Reviews of Fight Club: A Novel

Book Review: Disturbingly subversive
Summary: 3 Stars

It astonishes me to read the many reviews that give this book five stars and virtually refer to it as a masterpiece. "War and Peace" it is not, although "Fight Club" is certainly fast-paced, unique and intriguing. However, Palahniuk's point appears to be to lash out at society in general, and specifically at "the man," in that his book is a violent, disturbing and subversive novel about conformity, and the apparent male need to pummel each other on a regular basis.

What possible satirical device is Palahniuk using by telling the reader how to make nitro-glycerin, or how easy it is for a waiter to get away with urinating in food served to patrons? From his introduction, Palahniuk appears proud that young men, influenced by his book, are starting fight clubs all over the country.

Obviously, the book has a great deal of resonance with many people. I have to admit that it kept me turning pages. However, I question Palahniuk's motivation in writing it, and just hope that people treat it as a satirical work, and not as a "how to" book.

Book Review: Don't Put this book down....
Summary: 5 Stars

A thiller, action packed to the end. If you have ever seen the movie this book is ten times better than it. Very easy to read and very easy to follow.

Book Review: Excellent book
Summary: 5 Stars

Should be a real wake-up call to all men. We need to become something more than just a consumer. A mindless consuming taxpayer is not our destiny.

Book Review: Excellent book.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is an excellent read and perhaps even better than the movie, althought i enjoy both. The book adds much more details and history than the movie does. The book is written in a style as if the writer is just telling his life story and visiting memories and revealing details how ever he chooses. Some may not enjoy that style but i loved it. It gives you new views about society you may have never thought about before. Theres nothing not to like about this book. Read it!

Book Review: Exciting and influential
Summary: 5 Stars

"You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake."

Fight Club, starting with an idea and ending with an anarchy army, is provocative, revolutionary debut by author Chuck Palahniuk. With impressive attention to detail and a thought provoking gripping storyline, Fight Club is one of the most influential stories of the decade. Creating numerous real Fight Clubs across the country and affecting other "clubs" with similar rules, in addition to shedding light on real waiters who, like in the story, tainted food at expensive restaurants, as mentioned in the afterward in some editions, Fight Club definitely earns the reputation of being a most influential book that has affected people worldwide.

"You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."

Fight Club provides an interesting outlook on the society we live in today. Palahniuk's dark humor and style of writing may not be appealing to those of a younger audience or those faint of heart, but, being an exhilarating read and realistic writing, Palahniuk's novel is an amazing read coupled with some chillingly realistic actions that may keep people away from certain things. For example, one might never eat at an expensive restaurant again after reading this novel.

"We are all part of the same human compost pile."

Fight Club is one of those successes that everyone may find enjoyable. However, the novel is tilted toward older audiences and the occasional obscene language may make this novel unsuitable for younger readers.

Overall, an exciting read.
