Book Review: A love story, pure and complicated

This very fluent story flowed before me in just one day. As early as the restaurant dialogue I knew that this was going to be one of my five star books. The descriptions are delightful, especially the inside of the bathroom cabinet and the living room. After Catcher in the Rye, this was the first book I read from Salinger and now I want to read more. Yes, it differs in style from The Catcher, but why shouldn't it? It is a different book. As the narrator of the second part of this novella tells us, it is a love story, pure and complicated. As soon as I finished reading it, I started recommending it to my friends.Book Review: Dissapointing

I went into this book a massive Salinger fan, you may have seen my reviews of 'Catcher in the Rye' and 'For Esme with Love and squalor'. However. this book was a real dissapointment. The brilliance of his other works is totally missing and the end result is two mediocre short stories with nothing really going for them. 'Catcher' does not really have any plot and neither do these two but they are 100 times worse- the characters are dull, 'Zooey' is just fifty pages of waffle. 'Franny' is marginally better but only because it is half the length. Read another Salinger book instead.Book Review: Beautifully descriptive

I actually read this before 'Catcher..' and I think I even prefer it, especially Zooey, he seems far more of a cynic and definitely more suited to my age. I'd describe it as 'Catcher..' for grown ups- and no, not much happens in it, but that's life isn't it? It's also inspired me to find 'Way of the Pilgrim'.Book Review: Its not meant to be a comic book .

Ive just read some of the other reviews on here and I felt I just had to add a bit more . If you felt that this book really wasnt for you then fine , but and this is a big but , if your comparing it unfavourably with Catcher you are missing a point. Catcher is a great book , a masterpeice but it is in this book that Salinger really shows his brillance . It IS the discription , the way Salinger crafts the language that takes your breath away in this novel . If you want action and adventure the for gods sake watch a John Woo film . But if you want a subtle and beautiful tale of love then give Franny and Zooey a try . (Dont be put off by those who are too stupid to understand anything more taxing than a comic book !!!)Book Review: astounding

Having read several of the bad reviews for this book i feel i have to take a stand. As usual Salinger has produced an amazing and brilliant work of art. Anyone who understands the remotest thing about religion could surely appriciate this book. And more. This book is one of my favourites along with 'Raise High' and 'Seymore' and i can't begin to understand anyone who does not fall instantly in love with the whole Glass family. I recomend this classic to anyone who has ever searched for something more and found it in something that is truly loved.
