Book Review: Another one who says borrow it first

Based on the first "borrow it from your library review," I did just that and I'm glad I did. Though the interiors are stylish, they seem devoid of life. Who lives like this besides, perhaps an artiste in a garret?
Some of the pieces are beautiful, but I don't see the love of home that I expect the French to have--where's the food, the bottle of wine, the color, the texture, the voluptousness, the joie de vivre? Admittedly, I've only been in a few French homes--and those were of regular folk, but none of them looked like these ones. The ones that I visited did have that inimitable French style w/out this austerity that belongs to no one, I suspect.
I expected something different--not cluttered like American homes and not overstuffed like typical English, but something w/ a little more, well, homey-ness. I got none of that.
Plus, the dets bugged me. One pic shows votives on a table and they call them jars. Infinitesimally minor point, I know, but still..... Save your money. Borrow it, get some ideas and return it....
