Book Review: *WILD* Outfits and *FULL-COLOR* Pics!

The FRESH FRUiTS book is a follow up to Fruits. It shows full color pictures of both young men and women and androgynous in the Harajuku district of Tokyo. These aren't professional models, just young people out on the street and hanging out, and that's what makes these pictures so interesting.
Each page is dedicated to either one person or a couple, a few have a trio, and is printed on heavy-duty semi-gloss paper. Even though FRESH FRUiTS is a paperback, it's pretty well made measuring about 6 1/2" X 9" (WxL).
The styles range from punk to goth-lolita; strange to fashion disaster and everything in between. And even though you might look at some of these outfits and wonder "what were they thinking?," you can't help but admire their moxie. And they look like they're having a lot of fun, too.
Pictures date from 1994-2002 and Shoichi Aoki, founder and photographer of FRUiTS magazine, who is responsible for this amazing recording of fashion history, includes a foreword.
One draw back is the tiny descriptions of the outfits. It's hard to read because of the small typeface and odd colors, and they're very brief. But that's not the reason you buy FRESH FRUiTS anyway. You buy this book to marvel at the colorful clothes and rabid individuality in style that these young people exhibit.
