Book Reviews of From HellBook Review: Graphic SF Reader Summary: 4 Stars
Moore and Campbell have delved deeply into the story of Jack the Ripper, to present a version of what might have happened, based on what they knew and discovered in the research.
While odd looking to start with, the artwork seems to fit the squalor of the times once you start reading, and the density of the work is pretty impressive.
Book Review: Great for anyone who likes graphic novels Summary: 5 Stars
Before starting this book I knew nothing about Jack the Ripper, nor was I ever interested in serial killer books. This book is genuinely fascinating. Moore presents a truly interesting hypothesis about the killings as well as provides the reader with a deluge of information to draw their own conclusions. It's a graphic novel in black and white with a complex storyline. If you aren't familiar with the format I wouldn't recommend this as a good "first graphic novel". If however you like graphic novels but are worried about the subject matter being tedious, I can attest that Moore manages to make this topic truly fascinating.
Book Review: Great story done a bad turn... Summary: 3 Stars
The story is excellent as usual from Moore, but also as usual, the art SUCKS. Not just the art, but the lettering also. Makes reading this a CHORE. It's V for Vendetta all over again. Even the Watchmen has below average art and color, but none compare to From Hell. Moore's great storytelling deserves better....
Book Review: Impressively done and far more complex than the film. Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, it's a 'comic book.' It's also the best treatment of the "Jack the Riper" killings I've ever seen or read. It took me a bit to get to appreciate Eddie Campbell's art, but it does work wonderfully for the story. This thing is massive, and has equally massive footnoted and two appendices, so you know what he made up and what he didn't and where he got even the smallest of details.
Book Review: Incredible Summary: 5 Stars
I am so in love with Alan Moore. I have the biggest man-crush on him now after reading this tome. I have been wanting to get this book for years, but $$... always came up. If you are a fan of comics or actually literature at all I implore you to scrounge up the dinero and BUY THIS BOOK!!! I am forcing the wife to read this so I can talk to someone about it, it is so much fun. I cannot recommend this book any higher. It is now in the pantheon with The Watchmen, Dark Knight, The Long Halloween, Sandman, Preacher, Astro City, ABC Comics, Transmet, Miracleman, Swamp Thing (Alan Moore's only) and Superman: Man for All Seasons
