Book Review: Not as good as "The Giver"

If you have read "The Giver", then you may be a bit disappointed with this book. The plot in "The Giver" is much more intriguing than that of "Gathering Blue". Anyway, in "Gathering Blue", the main character is a girl named Kira. She has a twisted leg and lives in a community where handicapped people are cast aside. When Kira's mother dies, Kira is taken to the council of edifice where her fate will be decided. Kira's life is spared and she is given the task of preparing the singer's robe, an object of great importance to the annual gathering held in their community. Throughout the rest of the book, Kira begins to question the world she lives in and learns several things about her own past. The plot of this story is fairly interesting most of the time. The rising action of the story is a little bit slow. Another problem with the plot is that it will often stray onto some other topic that is in no way relevant to the main plot line. Other than that, it is a pretty interesting book. If you have read "The Giver" I would recommend giving this book a try because even thought it is not as good as "The Giver" it is still a decent book. Even if you haven't read "The Giver", I would still recommend reading this book because despite its sometimes slow plot, it is still a decent book.
