Book Review: ARGGHH!!! Lost a star due to my frustration!

There was one thing that ruined this book for me and it was no fault of Fumi Yoshinaga's. The pages were out of order in over a third of the book. A big chunk right in the middle was completely scrambled. You need to understand what I mean by out of order. There were no more than two or three pages in sequence at a time. I went to the store late at night and bought different colored sticky note flags. (Prompting my mother to tell me that I was bizarre for going to the store at that hour for such an odd item.) I numbered them and stuck them on the pages so that I could get the panels in sequence. Once I had it deciphered, I really liked the story. Gerard does come accross as being rather hard initially. But when we see the roots of his contempt for the aristocracy, it is easy to understand why. I felt for him even before reading "The Noble Woman" chapters. He isn't unkind. That is evidenced in "A Cookie Just For Me." He treats Paul and Charlotte with kindness and respect; as people rather than servants. There is no relationship between Gerard and Jacques at the end of the book, outside of an uneasy friendship. This is realistic, but I wanted more! The second volume looks promising. The pages are numbered (the first volume wasn't) and in order. As I was flipping through it, I got several glimpses of what I had been missing in the first one. Apparently uneasy friendship develops into something more! Ahh, yaoi! If it sounds like your cup of tea, I say go for it. My bet is that my mixed up copy was just a fluke.
