Book Review: Overrated, with typical bias against the first day

Way overrated as a writer, Trudeau makes some basic errors for someone who is supposed to be a great researcher. For example, in the first few pages he incorrectly referred to Jackson as Lee's 2nd in command (it was actually Longstreet, even early in the war). It was Franz, not Fritz, Sigel. And the Iron Brigade won its name at South Mountain, not Antietam.
Also, Trudeau is blatantly erroneous when he writes that the losses of the first day "pale" in comparison to the other two days. Utterly ridiculous and unforgiveable. The 1st day's losses were just under the 2nd day's and greater than day 3. Trudeau is a typical generalist on the war who dismisses the first day. We need to get our history on the battle from places other than the Gettysburg movie and Burns' civil war series, but Trudeau completely failed in making me think he can move beyond the conventional wisdom.
Coddington's 40 year old campaign history blows this away, and I found Sears to be superior in many respects.
