Book Reviews of Ghost Girl: The True Story of a Child in Peril and the Teacher Who Saved HerBook Review: A harrowing true story Summary: 5 StarsI don't usually write reviews but this book affected me so profoundly that I felt I wanted to comment. The knowledge (as with all Torey Hayden books) that you are reading memoirs of actual events takes you - the reader - on a disturbing journey. In describing my emotions upon reading this book, I don't know that I could actually use the word "enjoyed" as other reviewers have. That seems an odd choice to me, but there is definitely something compelling about Torey's narratives that keeps you reading, desperate to know if the children get the help they so obviously need. Ghost Girl in particular draws you into one little girls' torturous world, and even if you never quite know just exactly what happened to Jadie, you know this poor child has suffered through terrible events. What is strengthening about Torey's books is that even whilst you glimpse the evil some adults seem capable of, you are at the same time upbuilt by the amount of compassion, kindness and love shown by Torey and her professional colleagues (social workers, police etc.) that are trying to help in these circumstances, who are there doing their best to protect vulnerable children like Jadie. Overall, Ghost Girl left me disturbed and uneasy yet with an overwhelming admiration for all truly humane and kindhearted souls, out there fighting the odds to defend otherwise defenceless children.
Book Review: Ghost Girl Summary: 5 StarsIm 19 years old and in my life have read many different kinds of books, from mills and boon to stephen king but no book has ever gripped me like Hayden's ghost girl.
I havent read any of her other books i just picked it up one day and thought it sounded good, i was amazed at how gripping it was and how emotionally involved you get in the evolution of the story, and then to find out its a true story hits you all over again.
Fantastic book, i am definitely going to have to collect her other books.
Book Review: A MUST READ Summary: 5 StarsHarrowing tale of a young girl Jadie...... not for the faint hearted but I couldnt put this book down, read it in 2 days and cried my eyes out!!!!!!!
Book Review: Reaching out Summary: 4 StarsA superb book for every professional who has ever been involved in a serious child protection case. Here is Hayden, someone else who has been through the self-questioning, the hours of listening, the stress and pain, and a final resolution that ultimately excludes the person who first made tentative contact with the silent and hidden world of a child in danger.
A difficult and traumatic read on first appearances, but if you come to this as a professional working with children then I would very much recommend that you go back and read it at least two or three times. The less shocked you are by Jadie's claims, and the more you examine Hayden's descriptions of her work and thought processes, you will start to see a very different story woven into Hayden's text.
Book Review: Torey Haden - Ghost Girl Summary: 5 StarsAll of Torey Haden's books I've read have been excellent inspiring stories of the children she has taught throughout her life.
The most wonderful thing of all is her ability to help these children and make their lives better.
I would recommend these to anyone. I manage to get through some of them in a day!
