Book Reviews of Ghost Girl: The True Story of a Child in Peril and the Teacher Who Saved Her

Book Review: Horror in Real Life
Summary: 5 Stars

My god!!! I read this book in 2 days. Torey Hayden deserves all cudos going for working with and helping Jadie. This reads like a real life horror and what this little girl reveals could never be made up. A true patience and understanding from Hayden comes through in this book, and whilst at times I felt physically sick reading it I can only imagine how she must have felt hearing these revelations from a young child.Hayden also goes into a lot of explanations about possible outcomes at the end of this book and this makes very interesting and informative reading. It is harrowing, gut wrenching, unbelievable(in the shocked sense) and shocking. DO NOT be put off by this, this book is a truly FIRST CLASS read and leaves you realising that just as thare are bad guys there are an awful lot of good guys too. Hayden is one of these.

Book Review: Absolutley excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the very first of Torey Hayden's books I had read and I was hooked, she writes so well and you cannot put it down she has you hooked from page one. You walk through her life with her and it's almost like you are beside her. You feel so much for the child in this book and find yourself wishing for her to get better. Torey Hayden is brill and there should be more people like her in the world i recommend this book and all her others if you have an interest in true life or damage caused to children by other people. Anyone who has ever been abused can take some comfort from these books and know there is hope out there it's finding that someone who can help and who wants the best for you.

Book Review: Truly moving
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the first novel I ever read of Hayden's and it moved me very deeply.

Talking of a difficult topic it is an emotionally gripping but a very worthwhile novel. You have to praise the work Hayden did with the troubled young girl Jadie was when we first meet her- it shows the work of a true professional.

I will admit that I was moved to tears at several points but found the book very difficult to put down- I read it within two sittings.

An excellent novel which allows a deeper insight into the psychology of the mind and how it can overcome even the worst experiences. It got me hooked on Hayden's work.

Book Review: The world needs more Torey Haydens...
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read several of Torey Hayden's books and I continue to be amazed at the depth of her character. She is without doubt one of the most caring individuals to grace this planet and with each book she shows us further the lengths she is prepared to go to help the children she encounters.

With the patience of a saint (although it's nice to see that sometimes she does get angry!) she takes us through yet another harrowing story of one poor girl's experiences at the hands of those who should love her the most - her parents.

What this small child has experienced is on a level so degraded that many of us would have difficulty even accepting that what she says is true. This is reflected in Torey's narrative, but with such skill and delicacy that you are not faced with an adult who thinks a child is lying about her abuse, but more a loving adult who simply does not want to believe that someone could do such things.

Torey is the saviour of the ghost girl and thankfully so.

Torey's books are not just emotional roller coaster stories of child abuse, but more an education on how to deal with troubled children. Most of us will thankfully never have to encounter such atrocities, but some of the techniques that Torey uses to encourage and comfort the children would adapt well in every day life.

The books are page turners which is an odd description for such genre, but the reader is so quickly tuned in with the difficulties of the various children that he wants to almost 'zip' through the hard stuff and get to the happy ending. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with Torey's books.

Smiles are not forgotten in the books, indeed, the reader is told just as much about the triumphs as the tribulations, and every small achievement or joy that the child experiences is thrown right at the reader and you cannot help but grin at some of the simplistic yet incredibly insightful remarks these 'troubled' children make.

Torey Hayden is a must read for anyone.

Book Review: Oh ... My ... God.
Summary: 5 Stars

My mother is the type of person who will read a book once and never touch it again and as such i get a lot of books thrown my way after one read, which is fantastic for me as if i like a book i will read it over and over again. Some of the books i get are absolute rubbish and i can see why my mother would never touch them again, occasionally though, there will be the odd gem.
I'm glad to say that Ghost Girl is an absolute diamond! Having never heard of Torey Hayden before in my life i came at this book from an (almost) completely unbiased perspective. (I say almost unbiased as i do have a penchent for psychology.) I was enthralled from start to finish. It may me laugh, smile, get a warm fuzzy feeling, get a sick disgusted feeling, get angry and cry with happiness and at times utter despair. It's a complete emotional rollercoaster but i loved every second. Don't get me wrong the subject matter in the most part is horrific but when you read this book you cannot help but to get emotionally involved in the children's (and Torey's) lives and as a result you want to make sure it all ends well.
One warning though at two points in the book i actually gasped in horror (after the barbecue and with the puppy) so i would not recommend this book for the easily upset.
Anyone else, enjoy... i know i did.
