Book Reviews of GhoulBook Review: Ghoul...creepy, creepy, 5 Stars
Ghoul is my first Brian Keene book. After I read this I purchased all of his other novels. I just got done reading "Dark Hollow" and "Ghost Walk." These three books are really a trilogy of terror. Each novel has its own story but have some of the same characters and locations as the other novels in the trilogy. This just adds to the wonderful creepy storytelling of Brian Keene. I am an avid horror buff and would highly recommend all of his books! I loved "City of the Dead" also.
Mr. Keene is a master at telling a good horror story, you cannot go wrong with his books!
Book Review: Good Read - excellent characters Summary: 4 Stars
This was an extremely good read. Keene's character backstories were heartbreaking. He sucks you in by getting you attached to the three main characters, which honestly reminded me ALOT of my friends and I when we were growing up! After you are connected, Keene pulls the rug out from under you and your nostalgia by revealing the horrible details of their pasts. All of this trauma plus there is an ancient creature prowling the local cemetary kidnapping girls and eating the dead. What more could you really ask for?
Book Review: Good Read! Summary: 4 Stars
My Uncle recommended this book, and I feel it was one of his better ones. Book brings you back to childhood memories and scares you at the same time. Not too long, but a good read
Book Review: Good book. Summary: 4 Stars
After reading other reviews here, I ordered this expecting something similar to the surreal atmosphere and bizarre characters in The Traveling Vampire Show, Richard Laymon's coming of age novel that features a supernatural creature as the villian. Though this story is considerably darker than Laymon's, I liked it better. Spoiler Alert- the only thing I didn't like about this was the way the goul dies in the end- its melted by the rising sun as it chases the main character and the woman he has rescued from its lair down the street. If I had written this, I think I would have had the heroes find a way to drive the ghoul away, but not kill it. That way they would never be sure it wouldn't or couldn't come for them again.
Book Review: Good but not Great. Summary: 4 Stars
The 80's references brought back alot of memories. The kids roaming their "territory", the start of summer vacation, the hidden fort, the neighbors and the monster dog and the map, all things which me and my friends also had at that time. Minus the Ghoul in the cemetery and the disfunctional families.
The story was ok, nothing scary, alot of it predictable. The ending did indeed seemed rushed, with alot of unanswered questions. The flash forward at the end did not answer or reveal anything.
Overall a fast read but enjoyable. I go thru so many horror and sci-fi books that I'm not always looking for a complicated multi-book series. This book fit the "let's just kick back and enjoy a quick read..." type book.
