Book Review: "Like the watermelon on the knife"
Summary: 4 Stars
Like the watermelon on the knife perfectly describes my experience of reading this book. At first the young heroines annoyed me, with their naivete, their preoccupation with appearance and their lack of concern for any of the social and political currents swirling around them. Then, as the author drew me in, I realised that their struggles for love and a secure future (marriage) are reflections of their amazing milieu. Their lives are so strange and yet so familiar; their circumstances so wonderful and awful and yet so similar to young women's around the world. I hope this author publishes in English again - Jane Austen on the internet in Saudi Arabia!
