Book Review: One Of The Most Beloved Entertainers Of All Time

I'm very glad that Carl Perkins is so beloved that people still talk about him, read about him and listen to his music. The Beatles, particularly George Harrison, kept his name alive for many years, as did other great musicians - mainly the British, who revere the American rockabilly stars of the 1950s.
Of all the great performers of the early rock 'n roll years, the one man I would have loved to become friends with more than all of them - including Elvis, Jerry Lee, Buddy and Johnny - would have been Carl Perkins. I wonder if any of his contemporaries is held in such high esteem simply as a likable human being as Carl? In this autobiography, he comes across as I had hoped: an honest, nice guy.
I appreciated that honesty in this book as Carl tells us about his ups-and-downs with his brothers, record mogul Sam Phillips, his illnesses, addictions and other things. When I finished this book, I just shook my head at the amazing life this man led, with so many highs and lows, the latter including many of his friends dying at a young age.
When I completed the book, I almost felt like I knew the man. I wish I had.
