Book Reviews of God Gave Us YouBook Review: Beautiful message tainted by social stigma Summary: 3 Stars
Overall the book has a wonderful message to share, putting God as the focus of new life, which I appreciate and adore. I was a bit disenchanted at the turn the book took as the expectant polar bears "rushed to the hospital". I was also more than a little disappointed to see baby bottles depicted on the following page. I had hoped such a sweet book would follow through with a more natural, less high tech feel as the book came to a close. Surely polar bears would not be delivering at a hospital, nor using infant formula for a baby that God gave them! In my opinion, society's stigma has tainted such a beautiful message.
Book Review: Beautiful story! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a beautiful way of explaining where baby comes from without giving an adult answer. The simple message that your child was a gift from God sums it up, and in a sweet story. The illustrations are soothing, and the story is a good bedtime read.
Book Review: Best Book Ever!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the BEST BEST BEST book in my opinion. Each page describes how the mama bear and daddy bear wanted a family, and they waited, and her belly grew bigger and they prayed each night for a healty baby, etc.. It's just such a great book. Each page ends with the phrase, "God Gave Us You!" When I read this book to my baby I point up her tummy to her nose each time I saw the 'God Gave us You' part and she always smiles.
Book Review: Book description not exactly accurate...Adoptive parents should avoid Summary: 4 Stars
After reading the Amazon description for "God Gave Us You" and a few of the glowing reviews, we decided to purchase this book with the intent that it would be read to a child who was adopted. We thought it would be perfect focusing not on the physical pregnancy/birth aspect of things, but instead on the fact that children are given to their parents by God. This was our mistake, as the book mainly focuses on the pregnancy and subsequent delivery for the little bear.
While the book is a cute story and a nice read for small children to answer the question of "where did I come from?" physically, it would be totally inappropriate for an adoptive parent to read it to his or her child. We will eventually end up giving the book to another friend who does have biological children as it is still a nice story, just not at all what we expected. 4 stars is for the story itself, but the book description would get 1 star.
Book Review: Children Are Gifts From God Summary: 5 Stars
God Gave Us You by Lisa T. Bergren is a wonderful children's book with a sweet, yet powerful message to our children. My husband and I have seven children, all beautiful blessings from God. As, I read this story to them I was reminded of my own pregnancies with them, and how when I held them in my arms for the first time, I felt just like this Mama Bear - full of joy knowing what a very special gift I was holding.
I loved how it portrayed her praying for her child during her pregnancy, and included the things daddies can do such as singing to and talking to baby in utero. This book will allow parents to share the love they have for their child and show them just how precious they are in the eyes of God, in a very special way.
In one small section, Mama Bear talked about they were "alone" and wanted a child. As I read it to our group of younger children, I changed that up slightly in my own words so that they all felt very special since none of them was a first child. Overall, I found God Gave Us You to be an excellent, uplifting book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has young children.
I received this book free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review in exchange for my honest opinion.
