Book Reviews of Golden Tarot Deck

Book Review: An Absolutely Beautiful Tarot Deck
Summary: 5 Stars

The Golden Tarot, along with The Golden Botticelli Tarot deck, happen to be two of the most beautiful deck of cards, that I presently own... I love the feel of the cards, they are absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend them, especially if you like Renaissance Art!

Book Review: An Amazing Deck for an Amazing Price!
Summary: 5 Stars

Like some of the other reviewers, I too have collected a number of tarot decks over the years, always searching for that one perfect deck. Some I've bought have come close, while others I have eventually gotten rid of for lack of interest or utility.

The Golden Tarot Deck not only fulfills all I have looked for in a tarot deck, it surpasses what I have looked for. As I will use this deck primarily, I may just buy another one in case I wear this one out!

As others have already noted, I was amazed at the price for such a sumptous deck. I have bought decks that cost more than this one that were not even close to this level of execution or quality. The box the deck comes in is very sturdy and beautiful. The accompanying book slides in nicely with the cards so that you can carry both around.

As for the deck, it is richly detailed, gorgeously colored and, for, someone like me who prefers the Rider Waite icnography, this desk is both familiar and strange in that the imagery of RW is still there, but with new interpretive images and symbols that stir the imagination.

I highly recommend this deck for novices and for those who have used the tarot for years. It is a stunning piece of work and it will be hard for anyone to top both the quality of the deck and its packaging. Excellent work!

Book Review: An Amazing New Tarot set destinted to become a classic
Summary: 5 Stars

I buy a lot of Tarot decks and end up turning around and selling many of them when they don't live up to my expectations, but the Golden Tarot by Kat Black is a keeper. What an amazing deck!

The collage work is nearly seamless and, because the images are taken from paintings rather than photographs, it doesn't look like a collage deck at all. It looks like someone discovered a series of Renaissance paintings on the subject of Tarot! And as others have mentioned, the symbolism is similiar enough to RWS that anyone familiar with that classic should be comfortable with this deck right out of the box.

The cards themselves are smooth and silky-feeling and strong enough to hold up to use, without being overly stiff. The gilt edges give the deck a rich look. And I LOVE the packaging US Games has come up with for this set and hope they use this design in the future! The box is sturdy and attractive and easy to use without mangling the cards getting them in and out. And the book, while small compared to a "real" book, is MUCH larger and more comprehensive than the typical LWB that accompanies most decks.

If I could give this set more than 5 stars, I would!

Book Review: Artistic detail is intricate, but religious symbolism...?
Summary: 3 Stars

I appreciate the effort that went into making this deck. Ignoring the figures themselves, the quality of the artwork is nice. I like the golden edges too. The cards don't stick together.

Personally, though, I don't care for christian figures that appear throughout the deck. (Jesus, Adam & Eve, Angels, etc) I didn't expect that at all, and I would not have purchased this deck had I known how heavily the church and religion appear in this deck as influences.

Book Review: Artistic, beautiful and accurate.
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the first tarot deck I purchased which I truly felt in tune. I think the secret to this tarot deck specifically is that it utilizes older images and artwork to create unique tarot images, thereby giving the deck the beauty of the Renaissance. The Golden Tarot will invoke the Golden Age of Elizabeth and also some darker imagery which will satisfy any Anglophile, yet there is also images which call upon the mystical traditions of alchemy and Catholic esoterica. You may easily find yourself turning to this deck before you turn to the Rider-Waite deck purely because it is much nicer to look at. The only beef is that the corresponding book doesn't give satisfying descriptions of the cards, but most tarot readers have a small library of books on the tarot that totally make up for it.
