FEATURED IN THE "SIX SILENT MEN SERIES" BY REYNEL MARTINEZ BOOK 1,AND KENN MILLER,BOOK 2.HE GIVES NEW MEANING TO "IV" THERAPY AND BEDSIDE MANOR.ONE CAN ONLY IMAGINE COMING FACE TO FACE WITH THIS VIKING OF A MAN ( 6'4",22O LBS +, SIZE 13 HO-CHI MINH SANDALS,BLACK PAJAMA'S) WALKING POINT IN THE JUNGLES OF SOUTH EAST ASIA WITH A PAINTED FACE AND A ATTITUDE TO MATCH.ONE OF MY FAVORITE SECTIONS HAS TO BE "THE STREAM CROSSING".THE STREAM HAD BEEN NEGOTIATED SAFELY SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST. THE PATROL FOR AN UNEXPLAINED REASON WAS DEADLOCKED. "LURCH" GREW IMPATIENT WITH THE PROCESS OF BEING IN A "DANGER AREA" AND WENT FORTH TO INVESTIGATE, AND DEMONSTRATE THE PROPER WAY TO EXPEDITE STREAM AND RIVER CROSSINGS IAW FM 90-5 (JUNGLE OPERATIONS)STYLE. UPON REACHING THE WATERS EDGE, ONE MEMBER OF THE PATROL ATTEMPTING NEGOTIATION OF THE STREAM INADVERTANTLY DROPPED A "C" RAT CAN FROM HIS RUCKSACK INTO THE WATER, CAUSING THE WATER TO "CHURN". A FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEILED "BUFFALO LEECHES".A LEECH NOT COMMON TO NORTH AMERICA, WITH THE ABILITY TO SUCK THE BLOOD THROUGH THE ACTUAL HIDE OF A WATER BUFFALO ATTEMPTING TO DRINK OR CROSS THE WATER."LURCH" WATCHED IN AWE AS LEECHES BY THE HUNDREDS, ATTEMPTED TO DEVOUR THE CAN AND ANYTHING ELSE.SEVEN TOURS IN VIETNAM,A 23 YEAR "GREEN BERET", SON OF A DISTINGUSHED WWII VETERAN THAT SERVED WITH PATTON.
