Book Reviews of Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

Book Review: So Fantastic!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this, and am currently rereading it is so fantastic. Every sentence is written so perfectly and humerously - in a typical gaiman/pratchett dry and slightly twisted style.
Can't stress how wonderful it is - definately one of my fave books of all time!!

Book Review: A Pratchett Hallmark
Summary: 5 Stars

An avid Pratchett fan, I picked up Good Omens with the feeling you have when a book seems unable to live up to its predecessors. A tale of an angel and a devil both manipulating the course of the apocolypse it seemed for the first chapter to be confusing but given a few pages this book became one of the funniest I've ever read. No correction the funniest Pratchett I've ever read, surrelism coupled with characters so bizare and seemingly so familiar. Set In the modern world this has given Pratchett to take the entire world and take the mick. This book is full of sharp observations and surreal imagery-Marvellous

Book Review: Wonderful!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first got this book I was already a big fan of Terry Pratchett, and I was worried that his collaboration with another author could not be as good. How wrong I was! Pratchett's humour shines through in this book. You can certainly spot some of the parts that he wrote if you're used to his style, but his writing is combined with Gaiman's seemlessly, and there is a perfect mix of dark and light. The characters are perfect and truly reflect real human nature. It's a fantasy novel grounded in the real world. I have read this book a few times, and I'm still not bored with it.

Book Review: If the end is nigh, it can't be as good as this
Summary: 5 Stars

Quite simply this book is a work of sheer genius. It manages at once tobe original, witty, thought-provoking and exciting, surely something fewbooks can usually manage.
It doesn't bear much resemblance to previous Terry Pratchett books, possibly because of Neil Gaimon's influence. This doesn't mean it isn'tas funny though - this book will have you in stitches if you have even theslightest trace of humour.
Any book that manages to work the concept that the world:
Is only 6000 years old (and a Libra) (and ends today)
and contains:
A demon and an angel that are best mates
A crazed witchfinder sergeant (and now a private)
An 11 year old antichrist with a hell-hound that likes chasing cats
An old woman who could see into the future and who wrote a book of Niceand Accurate Prophecies which her (professional) last remaining decendantis still trying to understand
And the four bikers of the Apocalypse - namely War, Famine, Pollution andDeath (who will be familiar to Pratchetts regular readers)
...must be something special.
Possibly the most amazing thing about this book is the fact that, despiteall this ingenuity and the almost fairytale-based ideas, the story isrealistic and almost believable, probably partly down to the modernisationof some traditional concepts.
Also, it's refreshingly British considering Armageddon normally confinesitself to the USA.
You won't put this back on the shelf after the first read. I keep comingback to it and I am sure subsequent readers will too. If you haven't readit, you really are missing out.
If armageddon were this good, we'd be looking forward to it.

Book Review: Don't bother reading this....just buy it now!
Summary: 5 Stars

'Good Omens' was the first book by Terry Pratchett I ever had the pleasure to read, and since reading it I can see why so many people recommended Mr.Pratchett to me, he is simply a superb author. I found 'Good Omens' a book I couldn't put down (I know it sounds cheesy, but its true!) Pratchett's writing grabs you from the very first page, and it doesn't loose its potency later on, as so many other books do when the author runs out of ideas, and sloppily throws together an ending. Mr.Pratchett posseses a rare gift in which he can sound clever and make you laugh at the same time. Unfortunately Terry Pratchett is severly understated as an author, merely because his chosen genre of writing happenes to be fantasy, people do not give him credit for the truely brilliant writer he is.
