Book Reviews of Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, WitchBook Review: Omens ... Summary: 5 StarsAlthough I am not a great fan of Pratchett, I am a fan of Gaiman. It was a humors novel, depecting the end of the World, in a very comical way (although it did have some intresting thems). The relation between Crowley and the angel (and indeed all of the charatcers who people the story) were vividy dreamed and easily painted on page.
Book Review: Good Omens Summary: 5 StarsI've read this book translated. It was great, but when I read original, i understood each and every joke. This style is a perfect hit to my one. Some pages I read again and again to ... ejoy it. Who doesn'n read doesn't understand. Now, when I know more I find new hidden jokes. What do you think, why I have this e-mail??
Book Review: Reasons not to read Good Omens Summary: 5 StarsThere are no reasons not to read this book. I have read this book about 15 times, and have gone through several copies. You should buy the copy with the strongest spine, cos mine kept falling apart, and also I keep lending my copy out in an effort to spread this gospel. The story is a dark but highly enjoyable count down to the end of the Earth, with the unlikely dinner companions of an angel and a demon. Just read it, it will be worth it, I promise.
Book Review: Dull, juvenile and predictable Summary: 2 StarsPratchett has written some great books, but this isn't one of them. Good Omens is not very funny (unless you find an 11 year old confusing 'Aquarian' and 'aquarium' hilarious), very predictable (no the world doesn't end) and I suspect only enjoyed by 14 year olds. Pratchett at his best can appeal to a broad range, but here he seems to be writing just for kids. Its tempting to blame Gamian as but I suspect the only good bits in the book - those involving Crowley and Aziraphale - are written by him, and Pratchett is responsible for the horribly twee stuff about Adam and his 11 year old friends. I've read almost all of Pratchetts books and this is by far the most disappointing. Robert Rankin does the whole 'Armageddon with laughs' so much better, funny and much more inventive.
Book Review: GOOD OMENS - SIMPLY A GOOD BOOK Summary: 5 StarsI couldn't put this book down until I had turned every page and devoured every word. It was fantastically witty and really put a spin on the brink of the end of the world. I highly recommend this book to anyone who can see the funny side of the Apocalypse, and the reformed views of Good and Evil (maybe they're not so different after all)! Read it!
