Book Reviews of Goodnight John-Boy

Book Review: A Writer's writer.
Summary: 5 Stars

Goodnight John Boy is all I hoped it would be and more. This book answers most of my questions about the Waltons, the characters and the actors behind them. It tells about individual episodes and how actors felt about them. Someone in the book talks about the series as for writers and he or she was very correct. The character John Boy is the one that got me started journaling and then writing poetry and essays. It is also for families and anyone else who wants to read it Every video of the Waltons I have seen and now this book pushes my inner writer to write for the enjoyment of it as well as the hope to get published. Now I just want to meet Mr.Hamner, Richard Thomas and the actors who played those parts. I love storytelling also and will definitely recommend it to writers and storytellers.

Book Review: A great companion to the television series.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent companion guide to the television program (now up to its fifth season in DVD). It offers some good general info on how the series came about, as well as a description and some personal commentary on every episode. For anyone who may be interested, I am putting together a Bible study using The Waltons. It can be found online at AC21DOJ.org/AFruitfulBibleStudyWithTheWaltons.html

Book Review: A waltons fan
Summary: 3 Stars

I gave this book 3 stars i did enjoy reading it. but I wish there had been more stories about the cast of the waltons. i wanted to learn more about their lives.I did like it but wanted more.

Book Review: Earl Hamner delivers again!!
Summary: 5 Stars

In the book Goodnight John-Boy I found it to be very entertaining and informative. It has a positive family feeling that brings back many good memories of a show with moral values. Having many photos, I also enjoyed the excerpts from the specific episodes, such as the show "The Carnival" starring the 3' 9" actor Billy Barty (see also Earl Hamner's story/recollection in "Within Reach" a biographical book about Billy Barty). I recommend Goodnight John-Boy highly!

Book Review: Enjoyable supplement to the Walton series
Summary: 4 Stars

I didn't realize that the Waltons was "loosely" based on Earl Hamner's young life. I enjoyed reading about his life and how he was able to get jaded Hollywood to see that people liked this kind of family show. I also liked reading about each of the actors and what each tv episode was about. It is an easy and enjoyable read.
